Learning to Understand About Eternity
Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord today! In my daily time with God today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about learning about eternity.
I have recently been doing a series of messages on the Doctrine of Eternal Security. In the series I was reminded of the awesomeness of eternity and how and where our life is on spirituality will determine what we do in eternity. I think it would be well for us as believers to really understand that carnality, sloppiness, and lack of spiritual desire does not affect us going to heaven, but it does determine what we will be doing in eternity.
One of the Strongest Passages in the Bible on Eternal
Security Is in I Corinthians 3:11-15
I Corinthians 3:11-15, For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (14) If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Sealed until the Day of Redemption!
God has made His intentions plain in His Word. If we are saved we are sealed until the day of redemption – the rapture of the church.
Slothful Carnal Behavior Grieves the Holy Spirit!
Ephesians 4:30, And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Did you notice sealed?
In I Corinthians 3:11-15 the Apostle Paul relates what will happen at the Judgement Seat of Christ. In this passage Jesus Christ is pictured as the foundation. Every person who is truly born again, their life will be evaluated on the basis of his or her contribution and commitment to the kingdom of God since they have been saved. Two kinds of Christians are pictured here. The first one who steps up to be evaluated represents those who have made real contributions to God’s kingdom during their earthly lives.
I Corinthians 3:12, Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
(Gold, silver and precious stones). The first man’s works are of such quality that they stand eternal examination of the Saviour. Consequently, this man is rewarded for his faithfulness. (Wood, hay, and stubble). The second man steps up. He represents believers who have no time for the things of Christ, who live their lives for themselves. His works have no real substance, no eternal value. This is extremely important!
When the smoke clears, he is faced with the reality that in God’s estimation, nothing he has lived for has counted. He has lived a selfish carnal life.
Watch this next verse carefully.
I Corinthians 3:14-15, If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Notice it says, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. He will be saved! Even though he has not put much spiritual effort in his life.
However, he will suffer loss. He will not receive rewards and something else is he will not leave this scene here rejoicing. The next truth really made a difference in my life when I realized it. This issue of suffering loss.
Should I be faithful because God said to be faithful? Yes, but my faithfulness has eternal consequences. What I did in this life will effect what I do in the next life. The Gospels are full of parables illustrating this very point.
Let me give you a thought. What are you doing that will count for eternity? If a person is slothful in this life how can he be rewarded and allowed to lead in the next life? He will not be. If you cannot be depended upon in this life spiritually, you will not be able to lead or have responsibility in the next life. You will not be rewarded!
(15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Each of us will be judged on the basis of individual opportunities and abilities. Dear friend, understand the importance. What you do today will be counted in eternity for tomorrow. If I live a slothful, selfish, unfaithful, carnal, discouraged, angry, complaining life I will not be rewarded and that will affect me for all eternity. Rather a Spirit filled and controlled person desiring to serve the Saviour with a right heart, I will be rewarded and that will count on what I get to do for all eternity. Something to really think about.
Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living a life that is not useable for God? Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish and carnality to rule your life? Ask God to forgive you and cleanse you from these sins! Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving with joy. We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him and living for Him, not the life of selfish carnality. It is an eternal choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a useful rewarded servant!
