Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about learning about the destructive sin of lying. Unfortunately, we live in a world of lying. I was reading this week in Jeremiah 5 about how the nation Israel was destroyed by lying.

Jeremiah 5:1-4, Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a manif there be any that executeth judgment that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.  (2)  And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely. (3)  O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. (4) Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

The Israelites were a bunch of liars and God judged them for it. They suffered horribly for it.  We live in a day of multiple opinions, many not the truth or just partially truth. Many people lie to rationalize their own sin or their own opinion.

Be Careful About What You Say and Hear

There is a timeless principle in the book of Proverbs which is very important.  Sadly, we live in a world where someone says something and others listen to it, and gossip is spread, where there is not truth or just partial truth in it.  Many people lie about others to make themselves look better.

Proverbs 18:13, He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Just think about this folks, before you believe or repeat something make sure you talk to the other person or situation. We cannot counsel anyone if we do not know the truth. In many years of Biblical counseling I have learned, sometimes painfully, there are two sides to every story. If you repeat something that is not the truth or give counsel about something that is not the truth, or rationalized to try to paint something that is not the whole story or to make yourself look better, I think God calls that lying.

He also judges it. God takes a very dim view of this.

Revelation 21:8, But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

God Desires His Children Put Off Lying

Ephesians 4:22-25, That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;  (23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;  (24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.  (25)  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Vs, 22, Put off the former life of the old man.
Vs 23, Be renewed in the spirit of your mind by submitting yourself to God and asking the Holy Spirit to open the Word of God to you and teach you.

Vs 24, Put on the new man. Focus on spiritual truth, God’s truth rather than lying.

Notice what the first thing is God wants you to put off as a person with a renewed mind.

Vs 25, Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour:

God wants us to put away lying and live in truth!  Make it real in your life and focus on it.  God wants us to be Spirit controlled people not lying people.

Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living your life not dealing with the sin of lying? Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish carnal thinking or listening to rule your life and making you lie or rationalize your sin by lying? Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him and living for Him, not the life of selfish carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and rewarded servant! Rejoice in Him today!

Dear friends, we pray for many of you daily!  Be encouraged, do and be well today!
