Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God in His Word today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about why we are struggling in our Christian lives. This is the greatest subject of Biblical long term change and yet the most neglected or rejected by Christians. This causes great destruction in the lives of Christians and is the real cause behind spiritual rebellion. Sadly, it is the subject most Christians do not understand or wish to submit to Biblically. In our last article we talked about our lust. The Bible is very plain about this. The word lust, lusts, lusting, and lusteth is used more than 50 times in the Bible. Whenever God wants to make a point in the Bible, He repeats it. So, this must be and is very important.
When we Biblically counsel people they come to us because their marriage, children, or life is falling apart because of their lusts. They have lost hope, and they are fighting, waring, deceiving, lying, rebellious and their life is in total destructive mode. They do not understand why. Yet their life is a mess. Their life is nowhere near honoring and glorifying God, yet they profess to be saved. Many times they are ready to divorce and lives are being destroyed. They are rebels to authority. They are destructive and prideful people. Last time we said there are at least 82 lusts a Christian can have in their life across a wide spectrum.
What Is the Problem?
Romans 6:11-19, Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. (13) Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. (14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. (15) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. (16) Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (17) But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. (18) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (19) I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
So why am I struggling as a Christian? In Romans 6:13-19 the word yield is used 5 times and 8 times the word servant is used. If you notice in Romans 6:11 there is a very important word, lusts.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the luststhereof.
Did you notice lusts is plural meaning more than one? Notice how the verse starts. The word ‘let”. Whenever the word let is used at the start of a verse it means someone (you) have to make a decision. You have to make a decision to do what? Not let “sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”
First of all, I need to understand what my lusts are? Most Christians do not know and therefore, they are struggling. They are yielding to their lusts and therefore, they are allowing sin to rule and reign in their lives. Since they do not know what their lusts are and are yielding their life to them they are struggling in their Christian life.
Note: We have a “change sheet” with all 82 lusts in the Bible listed and how to determine exactly what your lusts are. If you would like to have a copy please see information below to order our booklet, How to Deal With Worry, Anxiety, and Fear. This booklet has the “change sheet” with instructions.
What Does God Want?
God wants us to learn how to deal with our lusts and then how to yield, so that we can become a servant of the Lord rather than a person who struggles all the time.
Romans 6:13, Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Yielding means to submit and to humble ourselves before God. We have to yield our lusts to Him.
James 4:7-10, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (8) Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (9) Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. (10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Submission means to ask God questions. It is the essence of the Christian life. Folks, the reason you are struggling is you are living for your lusts in a non-yielded life, living for yourself in certain areas of your life. Failure to see and deal with this will lead to destruction.
Romans 6:16, Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, (destruction) or of obedience unto righteousness?
Notice, “know ye not” means they did not know how or why. Whoever you yield to is who you will be a servant to. Sins (lusts) or righteousness. There are 3 ways you can lead the Christian life, unrighteousness, self-righteousness, or righteousness. It depends on who or what you yield to. Note a self-righteous person believes they are living the Christian life, but they are living their life in pride of a doer mentality rather than a submitted mentality.
So, learn what you lusts are. Confess them as sin, repent of them, and get in God’s Word and read and meditate on what God says about them so you can change your mind (renewed) about them.
May God encourage you today to take Biblical action in your life so you will end these long spiritual struggles in your life.
Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living your life not dealing with your sin (lusts)? Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish carnal thinking or listening to rule your life and making you react or rationalize your sin? Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him at the point of impact and living for Him, not the life of selfish carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and rewarded servant! Be the person who can help, not the person who always needs help! Rejoice in Him today!
We pray for many of you daily! May we all humble ourselves before God and focus on having compassion on others!
