Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God in His Word today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about dealing with your greatest hurt. Right now it is a difficult time for many around the world because of COVID-19. Lives lost, jobs lost, fear, distrust, despair, discouragement, difficulty in finances and not knowing what the future holds. People are under a lot of pressure.

Our desire is to be an encouragement and help to those who need help. The number one thing that I do as a Biblical Counselor and marriage speaker is to try to help people to move out of a feelings dominated controlled life and into a controlled by the Holy Spirit, Biblical principled driven life

What is your greatest hurt?

Over the past few months some people have had horrendous hurts in their lives. I read recently that approximately 40 percent of all COVID-19 deaths in the United States have been in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I can only imagine the hurt some children have felt with their parents or grandparents dying without being able to be with them. Then not being able to have a funeral. Down through time many people have had tremendous hurts and great difficulties in their lives.

Horrific things have happened. I could make a long list here, but will just mention a few. One of the greatest hurts in a marriage is when one of the spouses has been unfaithful. We have dealt with this terrible hurt many times in our Biblical Counseling ministry. People dying in a horrible car accident, or a family member has been murdered, or the devastation of cancer or a heart attack. What about emotional or physical abuse? These are just a few of the things people have had to deal with and there are many more.

Why did God allow such a thing?

I have had this question asked of me many times.  Let’s start with this. God made people with a free will. Everything in life is a choice. Many people make poor and ungodly choices. Quite frankly everything in this world is broken because of sin. Satan is the prince and power of the air and the God of this world.

Romans 8:22-23, For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.  (23)  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

This whole world is broken because of sin. You went out to your car this morning and had a flat tire. The washing machine does not work. Something else does not work. Technology is a great thing, but what about when it does not work?! You groan or say, “Why today?” The answer is we have to understand this is a sin cursed world. Bad things happen because of sin. Wicked people are here. Satan desires the destruction of our lives and is a creator of chaos.

2 Corinthians 5:2-4, For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:  (3) If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.  (4)  For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Everybody dies. Why? Because the wages of sin in death.

So everything is broken and the effects of sin are all around us. So, what happens when your greatest hurt happens? The devastating thing! The worst thing you can imagine? How will you handle it?

Did you know that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter?

I am so glad for that. So, when the devastating happens, the day you are not sure you cannot hold on, the day that someone has desired to harm you purposely, remember, non-Spirit controlled or unsaved people can be extremely cruel.

The just shall live by faith.

At the point of this great hurt, go to God first. At the moment of your greatest hurt encourage yourself in the Lord rather than go into defeat, discouragement, fear, depression, bitterness, and the desire to quit. Or the desire to seek revenge. Submit yourself to God immediately by asking God questions. Make your faith real today in this most important moment! Don’t allow yourself to think inappropriately. Think spiritually! This is the moment to focus on the Holy Spirit’s comfort in your life. It is a wonderful thing that in a sin cursed world the Holy Spirit is in you if you are saved, to comfort you in your worst hurt.

Philippians 4:4-6, Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.  (5)  Let your moderation (self-control–Spirit control) be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand (in your life).  (6)  Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (6)  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Years ago I wrote something in my Bible which has been a good reminder to me. “When you hurt, tell God everything that is on your heart, tell Him everything.” Tell God how this hurt you. Be encouraged in Him. You have to conquer hurt, not let it conquer you. You can only do that by the power of the Holy Spirit, by being a Spirit controlled person especially at the point of impact.

Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living your life not dealing with your sin (lusts)? Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish carnal thinking or listening to rule your life and making you react or rationalize your sin? Maybe you are afraid because you do not know how to change. God wants us to change to be conformed to the image of His Son. He will help us if we submit to Him. Don’t quit in the middle of a hurt, but refocus to see exactly what God wants you to learn.

Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him at the point of impact and living for Him, not the life of selfish carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and rewarded servant! Be the person who wants to change! Be the person who can help others change! Do not be the person who always needs to be helped, but the person who can help!

We pray for many of you daily! May we all humble ourselves before God and focus on having compassion on others! Let’s seek real Biblical change. May we all have the desire to make real Biblical long term change to the honor and glory of God!
