Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God in His Word today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about the ability to be an encourager.  What the world needs now is people who have the ability to be an encourager. Right now it is a difficult time for many around the world because of COVID-19. Lives lost, jobs lost, fear, distrust, despair, discouragement and not knowing what the future holds. People are under a lot of pressure. What about spiritual encouragement? Sometimes it is difficult to be an encourager. Especially when you deal with people who overreact all the time. The least little thing they are offended about and they blow things up and out of proportion.

Listen carefully, this is a sign of a spiritually immature person.  They are emotion led and easily offended.  So, how do I encourage the spiritually immature person?  Answer carefully!  Why?

Pride Is Always Behind the Issue

Proverbs 13:10, Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

Proverbs 14:3, In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Proverbs 16:18, Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Because when they feel angry, they act angry. If they feel like pouting, negative behavior ensues. They say whatever comes to their mind and show their spiritual and emotional immaturity. This is nothing less than childish behavior, and, sad to say, it is what keeps me busy as a Biblical counselor.  Childish behavior sadly is nothing more than carnal (selfish) behavior.

The Israelites were negative, prideful, murmuring, complaining people. Moses let himself get discouraged with them, which was an easy thing to do when you are not focused in the moment. Sometimes when people are self-focused all the time you need to move out of the way.  Why?  Because they will engulf you in their silliness! Joshua was one of the greatest spiritual men in the Bible and God knew He needed encouragement.  All of us do!  There are going to be tough days and difficult decisions.  Focus at the point of impact on spiritual maturity not carnality.

Deuteronomy 3:28, But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

One of the most discouraging things to have happen is to deal with people who are just carnally minded. Be careful here, because you can focus on them rather than focus on God and have discouragement in your life rather than be the encouragement those around you need.

Needless to say we still need Christians who practice being an encourager!  The following verses can be very helpful.

Ephesians 4:29-32, Let (You have to make a decision that) no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, (building up-encouraging) that it may minister grace (divine help) unto the hearers.  (30)  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  (31)  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  (32)  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Recently, I was out in the yard, down by the street doing some yard work. Yeah, I know we all have to do it! A car stopped and a lady put her window down and said, “How are you today? Are you having a good day?”  Honestly, in a self-focused world, I was shocked.  I said, “Great, how are you?”  Then she said, “I just wanted to encourage you to have a good day!”  Then she drove off! I did not know the person. Quick encouragement!  My wife and I are taking a walk of about a mile daily with our Beagle, Jersey. He is an encourager!  He loves his walk!  He talks to the other dogs along the way! In our walk we have made it a point to wave at everyone who drives by.  We have also talked to our neighbors who are out, just being kind.  You never know when a witnessing opportunity will come up!  Of course, we are practicing social distancing.

Carnal minded, self-oriented, overreacting people just wear you out!  Nothing is ever right in their lives, so they want to make their lives part of yours.  They are non-Spirit controlled people. They grieve the Holy Spirit. However, you can still be kind.  After all, love is kind!

Kindness Never Fails

I Corinthians 13:4-5, Charity (love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,  (5)  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Did you notice here, we have to deal with selfish overreacting people? We have to “suffer long”.  It may not to be as easy as we would like. However, we never accomplish God’s goals in our lives by being a selfish, (carnal), envious, prideful, self-promoting, handling our self unseemly, easily provoked, and not always thinking evil person!

These are all the marks of a non-Spirit controlled person. A Spirit controlled person is kind!

Always Ask God

Let me encourage you to do something that will help you.  After asking God each day to show you if there is any sin in your life, confessing and repenting of (turning from) it, ask God this question.  Whom do you want me to encourage today?  Then do it!  Be an ENCOURAGER!  Think about being an encourager. Pray about it! Focus on it! Your wife needs encouragement!  Your husband needs an encouragement! Your children need encouragement! Those around you need encouragement!  A great opportunity happens each time you are kind to someone else.  The ability to show God’s love!

I have a friend whose wife went to be with the Lord a few years back at a fairly young age. It was a difficult time and we have stayed close.  I have prayed much for him. He has met a wonderful Christian women and is getting married next week.  We have been friends for years.  I gave him some real spiritual advice this week.  When saying your vows, don’t stutter, don’t bite your tongue, and be sure to say, I do! He got a good laugh out of it.  By the way, there is nothing wrong with good laughter! I am so glad for him!  I pray that God will bless his and his new wife’s life.  He has trusted God and now something special is coming out of this great difficulty. We praise the Lord for it!  When he needed encouragement it helped him find his way.

Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him at the point of impact and living for Him, not the life of selfish carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and encouraging servant! Be the person who wants to change!  Be the person who can help others change! Make sure you have the ability to be an encourager each day! Do not be the person who talks the talk but does not walk the walk!

We pray for many of you daily!  May we all humble ourselves before God and focus on having compassion on others!  Let’s seek real Biblical change. May we all have the desire to make real Biblical long term change to the honor and glory of God!
