Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God in His Word today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about looking for the good, best in people. Our desire is to be an encouragement and help to those who need help. The number one thing that I do as a Biblical Counselor and marriage speaker is to try to help people to move out of a feelings dominated, emotion controlled life and into a controlled by the Holy Spirit, Biblical principled driven life.

Here at Hope Biblical Counseling center we get to talk to many people. I am glad for those who have been able to see their lives changed for the honor and glory of God. We have had two families recently who have finished up our Biblical Counseling 13 week program who have stated, “God has changed our lives by being in this program.” We praise the Lord for that. When people listen to the Biblical truth of God’s Word and apply it, He can give them hope and change their life. There is no substitute for learning how to be a Spirit controlled person and have a real, intimate, personal, passionate relationship with God.

We all have a fallen nature

I realize that we have a fallen sin nature and people are sinners. However, it is easy to be a negative, critical, and fault finding person because of our sin nature. In 41 years of ministry as a Pastor and a Biblical Counselor, I have seen many people who are not Spirit controlled people. They do not have a real, intimate, personal, and passionate relationship with God. Their lives are destroyed because they do not understand how to make wise spiritual decisions. If you do not understand what it means to have a real relationship with God and be a Spirit controlled person click here:

Only a Spirit controlled person can have a correct spirit and attitude

Ephesians 5:17-21, Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.  (18)  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (19) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; (20) Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (21) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

Did you notice in vs 17 not to be unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is?

So, what is the will of God for all of us? Notice vs 18, but be filled (controlled by) with the Spirit.

Rather than having a negative, critical, fault-finding spirt focus on what God wants

be an encouragement to others by looking for the best in people rather than the first thing out of your mouth is criticism. Many Christians focus on the negative. It is a byproduct of what Satan wishes to accomplish in your life.

Here is what God says about it.

Ephesians 4:29-32, Let (means you have to make a decision to do this) no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.  (30)  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  (31)  Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  (32)  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Notice this list of 8 ugly things: corrupt communication out of your mouth, grieving the Holy Spirit, bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour (public quarreling), evil speaking, and malice. All these things are to be put away from you!

Have you found yourself doing this? Folks, many Christians handle themselves deceitfully, wickedly because they are out of fellowship with God and can hurt many people. It is a measurement of our spiritual life. What does God want? To put these off and do what? Look below.

Ephesians 4:32, And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Did you notice that? What does God want? Notice this list: be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another. Why? Because Christ has forgiven you! We are sinners just as our neighbor is! Aren’t you glad Christ forgave you?

Let me encourage you today, be a Spirit controlled person. Focus on how you can encourage someone today. Every day I ask God whom he wants me to encourage today. When he shows me that, I send them a text, a phone call, email, card, etc. Many Christians are masters at looking for critical, negative, and fault finding things.

Look for something to tell a person, especially your children and spouse that they did well today.

Look for good in people and encourage them. Everybody is a little tired. You can be a great encouragement today and a positive focus for a friend, neighbor, family member, church member or just someone you come across today.

Be an encourager not a fault finder

Is it possible to see the good in people? Yes, with a Spirit controlled life. How does a Spirit controlled person think?

Philippians 4:8, Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living your life not dealing with your sin (lusts). Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish, carnal thinking or listening to rule your life and making you react or rationalize your sin? Maybe you have found yourself in today’s article by negatively focusing all the time, rather than being a Spirit controlled person. Realize this is not honoring and pleasing to God. It will end up in destruction and emotional distress in your life. God will help us if we submit to Him. Don’t quit in the middle of a circumstance or disappointment, but refocus to see exactly what God wants you to learn.

Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled, yielded, godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him at the point of impact and living for Him, not the life of selfish, carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and rewarded servant! Be the person who wants to change! Be the person who can help others change! Do not be the person who always needs to be helped, but the person who can help!

May we all humble ourselves before God and focus on having compassion on others! Let’s seek real Biblical change. May we all have the desire to make real Biblical long-term change to the honor and glory of God!
