Thank you for reading today. Our greatest desire is that you would be encouraged in the Lord! In my daily time with God in His Word today, the Holy Spirit spoke to me about how you handle what you are facing today. Our desire is to be an encouragement and help to those who need help. The number one thing that I do as a Biblical Counselor and marriage speaker is to try to help people to move out of a feelings dominated, emotion controlled life and into a controlled by the Holy Spirit, Biblical principled driven life.
In a world that is getting more and more complicated all the time, it is a sure thing that you will face stresses in your life. Let me give you some possible stresses you might face. Serious health issues, Covid-19 is a reality.
What about a boss that is difficult, financial pressures, family discord, accidents, people pressure, family pressure, marital discord, children discord, and the list can go on and on. Maybe you started out today thinking this is going to be a good day and something happened to just knock you off your feet. It was unexpected. What you thought was going to be an uneventful day is now a stressful, difficult hard day!
It is always easy to say things like, “It never fails, just when I thought I had everything together now this happens!” It makes you start to be cynical about what your days will be. You are now looking for it to be a “no good, horrible, very bad day!” If you are not careful that can be every day!
God Never Promised Us Our Days Would Not Be Stressful
There are going to be stressful days because “the whole creation groans because of sin.” We have a fallen nature. Everything in this world is broken because of sin. Many people we counsel make the statement, “All I want is peace!” Their definition of peace is different than God’s definition of peace. Their thought is they do not want to deal with stressful things. God’s definition of peace is not to promise you that you will not have to deal with stressful things. In fact, many people who have to deal with stressful things quit very easily. They quit in their marriage, their job, their friends, their relatives, and their children, under the guise of having peace. Don’t misunderstand, there may be an issue that you do have to move from because it is ungodly, and you are dealing with ungodly people who you no longer need to be around because they absolutely do not have your best interest at heart.
Be Aware of Enemies
Psalms 59:1-2, Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. (2) Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.
Unfortunately, there are people who seek to harm you and many times it is because of the rebellion in their lives toward the things of God and His Word. They seek to do you harm. You might have to get away from them.
Dealing With What I Am Facing Today
Most things, though, are just about how we handle the daily stresses of life. You have heard people at work or church who maximize everything. “I can’t take it anymore!” They spend more time complaining about everything rather than focusing on God’s answer.
Many years ago I worked as the publisher of a daily newspaper. It was a very difficult job with long hours. On a particular day in the area of the country we were in, we had a major snow storm. It just continued to pound us. Many of our newspaper routes were delivered by motor route carriers. Approximately 5 of them called in to say they could not deliver their route today. They have a contract to do so. Remember this, years ago when a person did not get their newspaper they lost all sense of common sense! So, we were looking at hundreds, maybe a couple of thousand phone calls. Sounds like a wonderful day of dealing with very angry people. They did not care if they couldn’t get out, we should! A lady district manager came to my office crying. “I cannot deliver this many routes!” No doubt a very difficult day. She was a Christian, so I said, “First of all, let’s calm down and have a word of prayer together. We prayed and asked God for His wisdom, direction, and how to do this God’s way. I asked, “Which route is your biggest? She told me. I told her to call her list of substitutes and pay them whatever was necessary to deliver the route. “You can charge the contractor back for this, because of their failure to deliver.” She did that and came back and said, “Jim will deliver it.” She followed the procedure and got all the routes delivered. After each person took a route to deliver, her demeanor changed. Finally, she apologized and said, “I am sorry, I just let the moment overwhelm me.”
Many people deal with their life issues this way. No one is immune from moments in their life. How you handle them is important.
James 1:2-5, My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; (various trials). (3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience (spiritual and emotional maturity) (4) But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (5) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Now Is Not the Time to Get Angry or Fear
Most people respond to stresses by letting their anger and fear take control.
Ephesians 4:31, Let all bitterness, and wrath, (anger with a strong desire to avenge) and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Psalms 56:3-4, What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (4) In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
I Am Convinced from God’s Word, it is Not What Happens to You, But How You Respond to it.
First of all ask God questions. It is the essence of the Christian life! “How do you want me to handle this?” Most people get overwhelmed because they look at it from the big picture and blow everything out of proportion. Have you met anyone like that?
Ask God to show you the next right step. God is not going to show you the big picture, but will show you the next right step. Then after that step ask God for the next right step as you work through the issue. It keeps you from being overwhelmed and it means you are living by faith.
Romans 1:17, For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
It is faith to faith. I trust God with this step and then the next step. This issue then the next issue. Then you can have God’s peace because you are trusting Him.
It is Never a Time to React, But a Time to Submit
James 4:7-8, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (8) Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
How do I submit? By asking God questions. It gives peace to your soul rather than worry, anxiety, and fear. Did you notice the person who is living under the circumstances is a double minded person? Overreact and blow things out of proportion. God’s peace is not freedom from circumstances, but handling circumstances God’s way, by submission and faith.
Philippians 4:6-7, Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (7) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Remember, be the vessel God can use today by asking the Holy Spirit to show you if you are living your life not dealing with your sin (lusts). Are you living in the sin of allowing selfish carnal thinking or listening to rule your life and making you react or rationalize your sin? Maybe you have found yourself in today’s article by negatively responding to circumstances rather than being a Spirit controlled person. Realize this is not honoring and pleasing to God. It will end up in destruction and emotional distress in your life. God will help us if we submit to Him. Don’t quit in the middle of a circumstance or disappointment, but refocus to see exactly what God wants you to learn.
Be all you can be for Him today and have a powerful testimony of living a Spirit controlled yielded godly life that is serving and living with humility, joy and peace! We encourage you today to make Jesus Christ real in your life by humbly yielding to Him at the point of impact and living for Him, not the life of selfish, carnal thinking and speaking. It is an important choice! Tell God you want to yield yourself to Him today and be a trusting, useful, and rewarded servant! Be the person who wants to change! Be the person who can help others change! Do not be the person who always needs to be helped, but the person who can help!
We pray for many of you daily! May we all humble ourselves before God and focus on having compassion on others! Let’s seek real Biblical change. May we all have the desire to make real Biblical long-term change to the honor and glory of God!
